Sinkhole opens in Fort Walton Beach: what to know
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — Fort Walton Beach Police Department officers are on the scene after a sinkhole opened in the middle of the road at Beal Parkway and Water Street, officials say.
The sinkhole has blocked the northbound lane and responders report power lines are down in the area. Police are asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the intersection while crews assess the scene and begin any necessary repairs.
Local authorities are working to secure the site and coordinate with utility and public works crews. Residents and drivers should expect delays and follow directions from officers and posted detours. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
