Kentucky Sinkhole News Brief – December 2025

Dec. 24, 2025, Pleasure Ridge Park Fire crews responded after a dog fell into an abandoned septic tank on Krages Avenue, off Pendleton Road near Dixie Highway in southern Jefferson County.
Crews set up a pulley system and lowered a firefighter into the opening to lift the animal to safety; no injuries to responders were reported.
While this incident involved a man-made subsurface void (abandoned infrastructure), it highlights a sinkhole-like collapse hazard. Residents should report suspicious ground depressions or unsecured openings to local authorities and keep pets/children away from abandoned properties.
