Anderson County road reopens after sinkhole
Published: March 2, 2017
Officials report that Byrams Fork Road in Anderson County, Tennessee, has reopened after a sinkhole opened following a rain-related washout.
The collapse occurred about three‑quarters of a mile from Hickory Valley Road where the roadway failed at a culvert. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department said the washout caused the collapse, and the Anderson County Highway Department responded to make repairs.
Authorities confirmed no injuries resulted from the incident. Local officials asked motorists to use alternate routes while repairs were underway. An update posted by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office noted that repairs were completed and the road has since been reopened.
Residents and drivers should remain cautious in the area during heavy rains, as washouts can undermine roadways near culverts and drainage features. For further updates, monitor official Anderson County communications and local news outlets.
